The Daughters of Charity Ministries in Emmitsburg Maryland is seeking a part-time Dietary AssistantPOSITION
Summary:
Assists cook in preparing and setting up meals.
Assembles, arranges, and cleans kitchen and dining areas.
Washes and sanitizes kitchen equipment (dishes, pots, pans, glasses, silverware, utensils, shelves, etc.
) on a daily basis.
Prepares evening meals as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSAssists cook in preparing meals and storing leftovers with labels and dates.
Takes responsibility for the St.
Joseph's House kitchenettes, stocking kitchenette supplies and serving/feeding Sisters.
Helps serve meals to Sisters with special diets and assists in serving Sisters who need extra assistance.
Assists with decorating and cleaning up dining room for celebrations, special events, etc.
Scrapes bowls and plates of uneaten/discarded foods.
Disposes of leftover juices and liquids.
Washes dishes, cookware, flatware, and trays or scrubs soiled items and transports to dietary department using established sanitary procedures.
Cleans tables after every meal and resets tables for next meal; i.
e.
, washes tablecloths, countertops, cleans and fills salt and pepper shakers, sugar containers, fruit bowls, ketchup, etc.
Cleans and stocks ice cream freezer.
Checks dishes, glassware, and flatware for cleanliness prior to putting them back into use.
Cleans work areas, appliances, equipment, walls, cabinets, shelves, storage areas, and other areas assigned (using 2 ft.
- 6 ft.
stools and ladders) in accordance with established procedures.
Collects and removes trash and garbage to designated containers.
Participates and completes assigned Relias Learning courses by designated due dates.
May be called upon to assist other personnel when extra help is needed.
Plans and implements a personal development program utilizing internal and external resources to assure continuing professional growth.
Adheres to strict safety practices and is constantly conscious of unsafe or potentially unsafe working conditions and makes every effort to correct or report hazards to the proper authority.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Must be able to endure at least four to eight hours continuous work (depending upon assigned shift) requiring physical demands including but not limited to standing, walking, climbing, stooping, bending, stretching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Wet/slippery floors.
Sudden temperature changes.
High humidity.
Frequent exposure to hot/cold (clear and soapy) water.
Subjected to loud machine noises.
Cuts and burns.
KNOWLEDGE AND
Experience:
Graduation from high school or equivalent required.
Experience in a food service department preferred.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions required.
Courses in institutional or hotel cooking preferred.
Must know how to operate and care for equipment and appliances, know how to measure ingredients and solutions and be alert to hazards.
Must be able to apply good hand and eye coordination skills when measuring ingredients to follow recipes; working with glass dishes; sharp instruments; hot cooking utensils; and hot/cold foods and liquids.
